The Dance Eclectic from Las Cruces is bringing a creative and collaborative dance showcase to the Black Box Theater on July 17 and 18, 2021. The dance company has brought pieces from shows spanning the last five years, pieces from their most recent show that was released online in June, and a preview of a piece in their upcoming show. The Dance Eclectic is so happy to be back in the theatre. The members are fully vaccinated and ready to perform for an audience.
The idea for Fringe Dance Festival (formerly known as Dancing in the Desert) was originally started by Black Box Theater owner Ceil Herman who wanted to have more dance performances in her theater. It allows companies like The Dance Eclectic to showcase pieces from previous shows that have not been seen in many years. It will also preview a piece from the upcoming The Dance Eclectic show in Spring 2022 choreographed by Morgan Rivera. The show will also feature commissioned work by the theatre owners, Peter and Ceil, to their favorite singer's song Vi Lever Annu by Bjorn Afzelius.
About The Dance Eclectic
"The Dance Eclectic is excited to revive pieces that have been performed over the years. This year we are excited to bring back a cheerleading style dance that was done in 2015 as well as "Blood Moon" a fun zombie style dance. These two pieces highlight the diversity in our collective," Creative Director Morgan Rivera says about the pieces for this years' show.
The Dance Eclectic seeks to provide opportunities for dancers of all skill levels, backgrounds, and abilities, as well as individuals who are simply creative and want an outlet to dance and work collaboratively with others with similar passions. They are primarily focused on crafting a single creative theatrical production once a year that explores a theme or narrative on which the members collectively agree. These productions are highly collaborative, with every member having a voice in their creation, by contributing original choreography, costuming, and more. Ages and skill levels of the dancers in the Collective vary greatly, with members in their teens, twenties, and thirties. Some members have been dancing since the age of 3, some have college degrees in dance, and some members found their passion for dance only in the last few years.
