Feb 23-Feb 24, 2019
Mesilla Valley Dance Eclectic is bringing an original show to the Black Box Theater on February 23rd and 24th, 2019. A Western Ode is a family-friendly show inspired by story elements of the epic poem, The Odyssey. Follow the adventures of a girl who left home to move out west for a better life, is forced to navigate through a long series of wanderings and hardships to make her way back home. Original choreography by the members of Mesilla Valley Dance Collective tell a story through genres of dance ranging from classical ballet to modern dance.
The idea for this show was decided upon by all of the members of the Mesilla Valley Dance Collective. This year the show features original and new choreography from the members and guest choreographers. The members of Mesilla Valley Dance Eclectic began the creative process of this show by looking at the story of the Odyssey. They wanted to tell the story as a western and began to plan the choreography around this theme. Once we planned the order, members chose pieces to choreograph that best fit their style of dance. The talent in the collective shines with this theme.
This show has been collaboratively created and choreographed by the Mesilla Valley Dance Collective members. We are joined by Human Nature Contemporary Ballet from El Paso.
