Description

The Tony Award winning musical comedy, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE will be presented by No Strings Theatre Company from June 24 through July 10 at the Black Box Theatre, 430 North Downtown Mall in Las Cruces.

Set in a middle school "cafetorium", SPELLING BEE takes a hilarious and heartwarming look at the pressures of growing up through the eyes of quirky yet lovable characters competing for the title of spelling bee champ. Throughout the Bee, each learns that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. At each performance, four audience volunteers are selected and invited on stage to participate in the Bee, making each performance unique.

"I am thrilled to be working on this production with such an amazing cast," says director Tom Smith. "This is the finest group of singers I've worked with in quite a while."

SPELLING BEE won the 2005 Tony Award for best book of a musical and the 2005 Drama Desk award for best musical and best book of a musical. The production at No Strings Theatre Company marks its southern New Mexico premiere.
